Kirkgate Cottages

Kirk Gate Newark - A grade 2 listed building dating back to the 16th Century and said to have been the residence of Lady Leake, with whom Queen Henrietta Maria (wife of King Charles the first), stayed between 16th June and 3rd July 1643, during the civil war.

in one of the flats there is a preserved painting on the wall of a brown horse which has been there for many years (research is coming up short on this s one.

Apparently, no matter how many times the walls were whitewashed or painted, the image of the horse always came back. if anyone has any history on this , please let me know
